Ahrefs overview at the end of the engagement, 7 October 2026. Client website hidden.
The client and the starting point
The client is a UK online store selling lab-tested research peptides across copper peptides, healing peptides and growth hormone secretagogues. When the engagement began in July 2026, the site was close to invisible in search.
- No authority: DR 0, so Google had little reason to trust it over established UK suppliers.
- Thin visibility: 26 ranking keywords, only 6 of them in the top 3.
- Barely any traffic: an estimated 580 organic visits a month, most from a handful of product terms.
- Absent from AI search: zero citations in Google AI Overviews or AI Mode.
The goal was to build trust signals fast enough to compete on high-volume product searches in a crowded, competitive niche.
What we did
We ran three off-page services together, each doing a different job, so authority, relevance and brand recognition grew at the same time.
- Brand Mentions: placed the client’s brand name in relevant content across the niche, so Google and AI engines started to recognise it as a real, referenced entity rather than an unknown store.
- Digital PR: earned editorial coverage that brought in the high-trust links a new domain needs to move its DR off zero.
- Niche Edits: added contextual links inside existing, already-indexed articles on relevant sites, passing topical relevance to the product and category pages the client wanted to rank.
The work ran in two phases:
- July to August, foundation: a steady build of mentions and links (referring domains rose from 254 to 485) to establish trust.
- September, scale: with the base in place, volume increased sharply, adding over 400 referring domains in four weeks while DR climbed into the high 20s.
Authority growth

Ahrefs Site Explorer · weekly, 29 Jun to 5 Oct 2026
DR barely moved during the July and August foundation work, then jumped from 3.6 to 29 in three weeks once the link profile reached critical mass. It has held at 28 since mid-September.
Organic search growth

Ahrefs Site Explorer, all locations · 1 Jul to 7 Oct 2026
Traffic followed the rankings: the site added 118 new top-3 positions, mostly on commercial product pages. It peaked in late September and settled at 11,944, still 20x the starting point, with estimated traffic value up from $271 to $6,156 a month.
Most of that traffic is commercial and transactional, meaning searchers ready to buy. Ahrefs labels many generic peptide product names as “branded” keywords, so the Branded row below reflects product searches rather than searches for the client’s name.

AI search visibility
The client is now cited in 200 AI-generated answers, and Google’s AI surfaces moved most: 115 AI Overview responses and 48 AI Mode responses, up from zero on 1 July.
- Still accelerating: between 31 August and 7 October, total AI responses grew from 121 to 200 and AI Overview responses from 50 to 115.
- Beyond Google: Perplexity (23 responses), Gemini (11) and Copilot (3) also cite the site.
- Next target: ChatGPT, where citations fell from 10 to 0 in September.
This is where Brand Mentions earn their place. AI engines weigh how often and where a brand is referenced, not only who links to it.

Keyword wins
Seven product terms with 2,000+ monthly UK searches went from unranked to the top 7, and three copper peptide terms climbed from the 30s to page one.
| Keyword type | UK monthly searches | Starting position | Position now |
| Copper peptide, long-tail term | 27,100 | 29 (8 Aug) | 10 |
| Copper peptide, head term | 12,000 | Not ranking | 5 |
| Anti-inflammatory peptide, product term | 5,000 | Not ranking | 7 |
| Growth hormone peptide A, product term | 4,800 | Not ranking | 1 |
| Growth hormone peptide B, head term | 4,700 | Not ranking | 1 |
| Copper peptide, product term | 4,600 | 30 (13 Aug) | 2 |
| Copper peptide, spelling variant | 3,900 | 36 (1 Jul) | 1 |
| Category term, “peptides + UK” | 3,100 | Not ranking | 5 |
| Peptide tool term (calculator) | 3,000 | Not ranking | 5 |
| Category term, growth hormone peptides | 2,200 | Not ranking | 1 |
“Not ranking” means outside the top 100 on 1 July. Exact keywords are withheld to protect the client. The copper peptide climbs were fast: one product term moved from 30 to 1 in under two weeks in late August.
Rank tracking evidence
Daily UK desktop positions from rank tracking. Keywords are hidden to protect the client.

Current positions for the two lead copper peptide terms: 10 for the 27,100-search term, 2 for the product term.

Copper peptide product term: from 30 on 13 August to 1 on 26 August.

Copper peptide long-tail term: from 29 on 8 August to 6 by 25 August.

Healing peptide product term: from 17 on 9 August to 8 on 26 August, then 12 the next day as it settled.

A further tracked term: from 3 to 1 on 25 August, held since.

Next in line: a peptide product term with 4,400 monthly searches, now at 21 and rising.
Why it worked
The three services covered each other’s blind spots, so the site gained trust, relevance and recognition in the same window.
- Authority first, then scale. Two months of steady foundation work made the September push safe and effective, instead of a sudden spike on an untrusted domain.
- Relevance pointed at money pages. Niche Edits sent contextual signals to the exact product pages that now rank, which is why gains landed on commercial terms, not just informational ones.
- Mentions built for AI search. Brand Mentions turned the store into a recognised entity, opening a second discovery channel through AI Overviews, AI Mode and Perplexity.
